How do you ensure equitable digital access in your classroom?
Education is changing rapidly and the use of technology is more frequently used each school year. Some educators may be faced with the challenge of allowing equal access to technology in the classroom. Below are a list of ideas for scheduling technology opportunities in the classroom.
1. Teachers can schedule technology time along with in-class assignments. During this time the class can be split into two large groups. Group 1 can access technology while Group 2 completes a separate assignment that does not require the use of technology. At the end of a set amount of time, the two groups may swap. 2. If there is limited technology in the classroom, a teacher can let students complete technology assignments (such as research) in groups. 3. Teachers may have access to laptop carts. In this case, teachers can set up a schedule and sign up for when they would like to have access to the cart. 4. If a teacher is in need of more technology devices, there are many websites that offer opportunities for teachers to have more access to technology in their classrooms. One example is Donorschoose.com . 5. Schools may choose to allow students to bring their own devices to school. With the direction from the teacher, the students may use their devices to complete class assignments or research in the classroom. |
